Facilities Shift Manager
About the Role
As Facilities Shift Manager, you will play a critical role in maintaining the reliability, safety, and performance of essential infrastructure within a flagship data centre. Operating within a 24/7 environment, you will ensure that all building systems and critical assets are functioning optimally during your shift, supporting continuous uptime and service delivery. You will be responsible for executing operational protocols, monitoring system performance, and responding to incidents in line with compliance and governance standards. Working closely with engineering, security, and service teams, you will support the delivery of planned maintenance, reactive repairs, and infrastructure upgrades, ensuring alignment with site priorities and safety requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Oversee shift operations ensuring critical systems including power, cooling, security, and monitoring operate at peak performance, proactively identifying and addressing potential issues before they impact service.
Ensure all planned preventative maintenance is scheduled and completed on time, meeting or exceeding quality standards to maximise uptime and longevity.
Coordinate and supervise maintenance activities, including those requiring permits, ensuring strict adherence to safety protocols and minimising disruption to data centre operations.
Enforce strict compliance with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), Methods of Procedures (MOPs), and Emergency Operating Procedures (EOPs), ensuring all team members are trained and prepared for both routine and emergency scenarios.
Conduct scenario-based drills and regular audits to test and improve emergency preparedness and response capabilities.
Prepare, maintain, and present detailed maintenance reports and records for management review, ensuring transparency and informed decision-making.
Provide adaptable and clear communication, accurately defining project requirements, offering technical guidance, and ensuring all stakeholders are kept informed.
Demonstrate composure and effective problem-solving in challenging situations, maintaining focus and persistence to overcome obstacles and ensure operational continuity.
About you
You’re a technically strong and dependable facilities professional with proven experience operating within critical, 24/7 environments. You take ownership of shift‑based operations, ensuring essential systems such as power, cooling, security, and monitoring perform reliably and safely at all times. Calm under pressure and highly disciplined, you’re confident responding to incidents, coordinating maintenance activities, and enforcing operational procedures that protect uptime and service continuity.
You bring a structured, safety‑first mindset to everything you do ensuring full compliance with SOPs, MOPs, EOPs, and Health & Safety standards while maintaining meticulous documentation and reporting. A natural leader on shift, you set clear expectations, support and motivate your team, and lead by example through professionalism and accountability. Proactive and improvement‑focused, you use data, monitoring tools, and operational insight to identify risks, drive efficiencies, and continuously raise standards across facilities operations.
Key Requirements:
Effectively implements site-level operational strategies that ensure infrastructure reliability, service continuity, and alignment with long-term business goals.
Experienced in managing shift-based operations, responding to incidents, and supporting service optimisation with a strong focus on uptime and customer satisfaction.
Understands how facilities performance contributes to commercial outcomes and ensures shift activities align with regulatory standards and ESG commitments.
Proactively identifies opportunities to enhance operational efficiency and reduce costs without compromising quality or compliance.
Proficient in using digital platforms and monitoring tools to track system performance, report incidents, and identify improvement opportunities.
Understands compliance frameworks and regulatory obligations relevant to facilities operations, ensuring all activities are fully compliant.
Capable of managing audits, supporting incident response, and embedding risk-aware practices into shift protocols and decision-making.
